Kerry Spence

Kerry Spence is a Certified Paralegal and Registered Legal Document Assistant. In 1977, she received one of the first American Bar Association approved paralegal certificates issued in the State of California from the University of San Diego.

Ms. Spence was born, raised, and educated in Wyoming. She is the daughter of one of America’s iconic trial lawyers, Gerry Spence. Raised in courtrooms, and having worked for years with her father and his law firm, Ms. Spence returned to Marin County to establish her small firm.

Bringing the law back to the people is the clarion call Kerry has been sounding throughout her decades in practice. Ms. Spence is recognized pioneer, leader, and educator in her profession.

She has been written about in several publications, taught at Sonoma State, founded FLPP (Freelance and Public Paralegals of California) an organization for self-employed paralegals, and also CELA of California (Cost Effective Legal Access), an advocacy group whose focus is legal access for self-represented consumers. She also serves on the advisory boards of Skyline College Paralegal Program; SFPA (San Francisco Paralegal Association); and CALDA (California Association of Legal Document Assistants).

Ms. Spence established her firm more than 40 years ago, providing services to the public and to active attorneys. She currently operates Kerry Spence Estate Plans, Inc. and The Paralegal Offices of Kerry Spence. Kerry lectures statewide on affordable legal access issues and concerns.
